I’m Ellie Cohen, the founder of Bright Fern Education. I didn’t start my career in a classroom. At the start of my career I trained as a chemical engineer, because I wanted to do something meaningful and practical in the world. I ended up spending over half a decade working as a chocolate engineer (Yes, that is a real job!). While I loved the problem solving, I kept finding myself drawn to the moments when I could help someone understand something new.

Becoming a mum made me think even more deeply about the kind of support young people need to thrive. It nudged me toward the realisation that the biggest difference I could make was working directly with learners. I took the leap and joined my local SCITT programme to train as a teacher.

Being a neurodivergent educator shapes the way I teach. I know how powerful it is when learning finally clicks because it’s explained in a way that fits how your brain works. That feeling of being understood is something I want every student to experience.

Bright Fern grew from that idea. It’s a space where learners can show up exactly as they are, feel supported, and grow in a way that feels natural and comfortable for them.

"Fabulous tutor who has helped my daughter so much with a hands on practical as well as theoretical approach that she found engaging and really helpful. She passed her science gcse which was down to not just her own hard work, but the dedication of her tutor too! I would highly recommend"
